Consumer products that have more than one purpose are tipped by Mintel to be popular in 2010, as people have to make do with less in the current economic climate.

Examples of recent launches include products such as Melisana Sarl’s Dermophil Duo, a moisturizing product that is both a hand cream and a lip balm.

Multi-purpose color-cosmetics

According to Mintel, in 2009 alone, 534 color-cosmetics with a multi-purpose claim were launched across the US.

In keeping with this market trend, US-based Blinc cosmetics recently announced the launch of two color-cosmetic products that combine lasting performance with anti-aging benefits.

Both of the products currently available in the fountain of youthful color range; an eyelid primer and an eyebrow mousse, contain the anti-aging peptide Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14.

Clinical trials of the products showed a 67% decrease in facial wrinkles after six weeks, and an increase of 53% in the skin’s moisture levels after just one week, according to the company.

Lewis Farsadakis CEO of Blinc Inc told CosmeticsDesign that “up to now, it had been difficult to find color cosmetics that combined anti-aging benefits without affecting the product’s performance or staying power, but we were able to accomplish this with our Fountain of Youthful Color line.”

Proven anti-aging benefits

With such an abundance of color-cosmetics with an anti-aging claim on the market - Mintel reports that 385 such products have been launched this year alone – Farsadakis said that it is important to distinguish between adding an ingredient to claim certain benefits, and offering a product with ingredients at levels supported by clinical trials.

In this respect, Blinc believes itself to be “the first company to apply anti-aging benefits at this clinical level to color-cosmetics”, according to Farsadakis.
