Bell Flavors & Fragrances has unveiled its annual fragrance trends analysis and is making the bold predictions that fragrances evoking a sense of familiarity or intrigue will be the winners in the year ahead.

In recent years vintage fragrances have been making a significant comeback, which ties in with the company’s prediction that tradition will continue to play a part in the fragrance trends for 2015; but conversely, experts at the company also believe that innovative, bold new fragrances will also play an important part.

The result of the company’s analysis is encapsulated by two main trend categories, called ‘Fragrance Comfort Zone’ and the ‘Fragrance Innovation Zone’.

Fragrance Comfort Zone

According to the Bell experts, this trend is where tradition meets modern spirit. It comes about because of consumer confusion caused by short lived product life cycles and the need to create a greater connection through distinctive and evocative fragrance.

The answer is traditional and familiar scents, which we will see being placed in cosmetic and personal care products more and more as 2015 progresses.

Accordingly, Rose is said to be the ‘all-rounder’, helping to create a fresh and lively fragrance that is particularly evocative in lighter products that are used in the spring and summer.

The experts also predict that these lighter fragrances will be replaced by leathery and heavy-sweet in the second part of the year, as we move towards the Fall and Winter seasons.

Fragrance Innovation Zone

This trend will be all about innovation triggering interest in products through creating a sense of the valuable, mystical and erotic, the Bell experts state.

Within this trend, out of the ordinary fragrances will come into focus, including the almost forgotten vegetable rhubarb, which the company says is likely to tie in with fragrances that will be green and lively, with slightly bitter notes, and combined with more floral elements, for the summertime.

Likewise Bell predicts that this will be combined with the trend color for 2015, Pantone’s Marsala, which will lead to fragrances with a berry nuance that is likely to touch on all four seasons in the year ahead, as well as oriental fragrances with leathery accents.
