Aurochemicals plant expansion underway

The aroma chemical manufacturer is nearly doubling the size of its Washingtonville, New York–based fragrance and flavor facility and has plans to grow much larger in the next few years.

The company makes fragrances that mimic natural scents like vanilla and coconut. And, it uses other natural raw materials and technologies to create these alternatives. So the resulting aroma chemicals are, in a way, natural.

It’s consumer demand for natural ingredients and brand demand for low-cost readily available ingredients that is behind the growth at Aurochemicals. “We’ll be doubling our size to almost 50,000 square feet,” Deo Persaud, vice president and CEO of the company, tells the press. “Our customer will benefit from the manufacturing and delivery enhancements now available to them.”

Real Estate

Aurochemicals got its start in Brooklyn, New York, over 20 years ago. Now in Orange County, the company has its laboratory, offices, and storage space in a 29,000 square foot facility. According to Persaud, Aurochemicals was set to outgrow the plant within the year. The current expansion will see that space increase by 25,000 square feet.

“The building….gives us the capacity and space and requirements for our immediate and future operational activities should emergency circumstances dictate,” explains Sagar Lachmansing vice president of food safety and quality assurance, in a press release about the new Aurochemicals building.

“It’s strategically located close to regional highways, Stewart Airport in Newburgh, the Port of Newark (N.J.) and shipping vendors. From a delivery standpoint, this building is an asset,” Lachmansing adds.

Planning ahead

The company has a long-term growth strategy in place. And the expansion underway now is only the first step.

Aurochemical has its sights set on the lot adjacent to its Washingtonville headquarters. If a soon-to-be proposed expansion is approved by the town, the company intends to open a building there by early 2019.
