While the use of nanotechnology in cosmetics is growing, the precautionary principle may hold back future development, according to a nanotechnology consultancy firm.

Eighty percent of all the nanotechnology related patents for the cosmetics industry where filed in the last few years, according to New Jersey-based Nanobiz, highlighting the growth with which the sector is growing.

However, the consultancy firm claimed that regulatory changes, particularly the precautionary principle being applied in Europe, could hold back innovation in the area.

CosmeticsDesign.com USA spoke to Charles Brumlik and Sam Brauer of Nanobiz, to learn more about the opportunities and threats within the sector.
