Google patents personal fragrance device

Google technologies has secured a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for a wearable fragrance emission device that deodorizes the moment body odor occurs.

The device targets on-the-go and sporty consumers who presumably will be attracted by its high tech spec and the fact that it raises the bar on the odor-fighting game.

The crux of the technology is an activity sensor, which is automatically activated when the wearer works up enough of a sweat to start the body odor process.

Ground breaking technology?

Patent 8950238 has create quite a buzz in the press, partly because it has come from the ubiquitous technology provider, and partly because it does have the potential to become a new technologically advanced niche in personal care.

Media coverage of the patent issuance has been frenzied, though reactions have ranged from awe inspiring to baffled, as well as some humorous reviews.

"When a user is wearing the fragrance emission device and begins to exert himself or herself, an activity module within the device may detect the physical exertion," the patent filing reads.

All about the activity module

The technology centers around the activity module, which can detect a rise in the level of sweat or an increase in body temperature, invariably triggered by exercise or the individual wearer exerting enough to break a sweat.

Once this reaches a level where odor is triggered, the neutralizer fragrance is emitted in the area where most odor occurs - presumably the armpits.
