Cosmetics Design proudly introduces the “Best Ingredient Made From Recycled Materials Award”

The Cosmetics Design USA team is introducing a brand new industry award that aims to find the best ingredient developed using recycled, repurposed, by-products or waste materials.

In an age where the sustainability profile of a finished product is often crucial to its credibility with consumers, the lower the carbon footprint a formulation can boast, the better.

And what better way to do this than to re-use materials that would otherwise have been discarded, adding to potential pollution and waste management issues and even threatening the environment.

Sustainability aims lead to re-use of materials

An increasing number of leading ingredients players have introduced new products to the market that are based on re-used materials – from food and agricultural waste to a wide variety of by-products that would otherwise have been discarded.

Cosmetics Design USA wants to honor the hard work of formulation experts and ingredient developers working tirelessly in this area to create more sustainable and eco-friendly products.

To showcase this prestigious award, we are partnering with the inaugural in-cosmetics North America event , which will be held in New York on the 7th and 8th of September.

Award criteria and submissions:

We are inviting any ingredient company or raw material provider that has launched a product into the North American market in the course of the last two years based on recycled, repurposed, waste or by-product materials.

To make a submission for the “Best Ingredient Made From Recycled Materials Award”, simply click here , or email simon.pitman@wrbm.com or deanna.utroske@wrbm.com , providing an abstract of no more than 200 words describing the product, its functionality and the story behind the material(s) used to produce it.

Requirements:

  • Launched in North America less than two years ago
  • Principally made from repurposed, recycled, waste or by-product materials
  • For cosmetic or personal care applications
  • Submissions should include an abstract of no more than 200 words
  • Entries to be received no later than August 30th, 2016

Judging and the awards process

The awards will be decided by a panel of four judges, comprising myself, Simon Pitman, Senior Editor for the Cosmetics Design Group; Deanna Utroske, Senior Correspondent for the Cosmetics Design Group; Gay Timmons, Founder and President of Oh, Oh Organics; as well as cosmetic chemist Valerie George.

The cut-off point for submissions is August 30th, when the finalists will be chosen to go through as the final nominations as part of the in-cosmetics North America Awards.

The ceremony will be held on 7th September, between 6 – 8pm at the mezzanine level of the Pier 36 event space in lower Manhattan, New York City.

The awards will be given out by Deanna Utroske, who will be announcing the winners at the event. This will give the winners exposure to the significant number of industry professionals attending the event itself and the online in-cosmetics community, together with the 50,000+ monthly unique visitors to the Cosmetics Design USA website.
