Cosmetic Chemists! SCC issues call for papers

In advance of the Society for Cosmetic Chemists’ 71st annual scientific meeting, a call for submissions has gone out. The society is accepting proposals from scientists working across the industry, on the supply side of the beauty business as well as on the finished goods side.

The deadline for abstracts is set for Monday, May 15th. And there’s a tidy little form for applicants to complete to have their proposal considered for inclusion at the meeting. And submissions for poster-style presentations will be considered on a first-submitted, first-reviewed basis.

This year’s meeting will take place at The Westin New York in New York City’s Times Square: “a new location for the first time in decades!” according to the posted cfp.

Two tracks

To provide both rising professionals and industry veterans with a robust program, the SCC is inviting submissions for two tracks: the NextGen Track and the Advanced Track. The first will comprise presentations of foundational data and information, resources that professionals new to the field of cosmetics can use to bolster their everyday work. The latter will consist of innovations and ideas that can inspire nuance and productive novelty among professionals already well-versed in formulation and product development.

The SCC has its sights set on these topics for NextGen papers: skin, hair, color, regulatory & preservation, testing, and marketing claims.

For the advanced track, these topics are of “particular interest” to the SCC: sunscreen review, health and wellness (so far as it comprises skin biology or nutracosmetics), hair and scalp, eCosmetics, green chemistry, and the latest product innovations.

Two formats

The SCC is accepting proposals for both podium presentations and poster displays; though the society is quick to note that “there will be limited opportunities for podium presentations, as this new program will consist primarily of invited speakers.”

As consolation, “Any abstract not selected for a podium presentation will be eligible as a poster and/or tabletop in the exciting new Technology Showcase,” according to the posted call.

The Technology Showcase refers to the poster sessions that will be on display the meeting.  This portion of the program was created as a forum where scientists working with ingredient suppliers and contract laboratories can display data and narrative information about new developments and innovations.
