Adapting to FDA guidelines key to the sun care game

Croda discusses sun care and the new FDA guidelines

Sun care formulators must adapt to the new FDA guidelines and offer a range of formulations if they want to meet the demands of their consumers and stay ahead of the game.

That is the view of ingredients supplier Croda, which invited the Cosmetics Design team to its Edison, New Jersey headquarters to see its latest sun care developments.

Skin Care marketing manager Jennifer Donahue told us that ingredients companies have had to adapt to the new claims of the new FDA guidelines, and whilst this does present a few challenges, it has also seen a whole new range of formulations emerge.

Croda has come up with new formulations based on its existing Solaveil range, but has also developed some organic formulations as Donahue explains it is more in-demand, and offers the customer a greater choice.

The new guidelines have presented sun care formulators with several different challenges with regards to meeting new SPF claims, as well as water resistancy; with sweat-proof and water-proof no longer suitable for labeling.
