WorldStar Packaging Awards for health and beauty announced
The WorldStar Awards for health and beauty have been announced, ahead of specialized award winners which will be revealed in January, and it seems The Americas have been left behind by stiff competition in Europe and Asia.

Of the 19 awards for this category, which came from all over the world, only two went to entries from the Americas – represented by a Canadian entry from Viva Healthcare/Berlin Packaging and

 Brazilian packaging company Antilhas Embalagens.

The entry from Viva Healthcare/Berlin Packaging was for an injection molded tube with a mold label that caught the judges’ eyes because of its metallic effect on the surface with no seam and the fact that it had been manufactured and printed all under one roof.

The Antilhas Embalagens entry was for soap cartridges for L’Occitane’s Brazilian division. The award was given for special texture finishes in min-frames which led to a high customer acceptance that resulted in sales reaching 50% more than initial forecasts.

European entries dominate

For the remaining winners it was European entries that dominated, with the UK recording the highest number of winners from any country, with four entries being recognized.

The British entries included glass packaging by Stolze Masnieres for Armani Gio Blue fragrance, which was acknowledged due to its use of new inkjet decoration techiques that allows photos to be printed on the glass to give a unique effect.

Another UK entry came from Plastipack Packaging for what is claimed to be the world’s first ever transparent aerosol. Thanks to a clear PET outer cylinder, the bag-on-valve inner packaging is completely visible, so consumers know how much product is left to spray.

Kose of Japan gets two awards

There were also several innovative new launches from Asia, including two entries from Kose Japan and Celltrion Skincure Company of South Korea.

The Kose entries included packaging for the Esprique Basemake Series, which incorporated a transfer foil into a color makeup powder case, as well the packaging for Kose Jill Stuart Lip blossom, which skilfully incorporates a flower motif into the cap that includes a ‘secret’ mirror.

The Celltrion Skincure entry was for the company’s Royal Golden Bee Venom Cream, which included an octagon-shaped container designed to resemble a bee hive cell with the addition of a diamond shape on each edge of the container, for added impact.

The World Packaging Organization is the organizer of the international WorldStar Awards, which are judged by an independent panel of judges who recognize packaging on the basis that it is innovative and best in class.

As well as beauty and health, the awards are also given in 11 other categories, including electronics, food, luxury, household and point of sale.
