Specialty chemicals provider Surfachem has set up its first subsidiary in Brazil, which will serve several industries, including the supply of surfactants to the personal care sector.
The joint venture has been formed with Brazil-based Vitrine Quimica, which is already a significant player in the market for specialty chemicals in the country.
The new company will be based in Guarulhos, São Paulo, and will be providing distribution and supply services to businesses all over Brazil.
Surfachem specializes in natural surfactants
Surfachem, a part of the UK-based 2M Holdings business, also serves the car care, home care, pharmaceuticals and oilfield industries, and specializes in natural surfactants for the skin care, body care, deodorants and colour cosmetics categories.
“We have been evaluating the potential of the Brazilian market over the past few years and have looked at a number of opportunities,” said Dr Richard Smith, Managing Director of Surfachem.
“We are very pleased to work with our new colleagues and partners from Vitrine as we both feel our values and business philosophies match and enhance one another’s.”
Surfachem eyes big potential of Brazil market
The company believes that big growth in the consumer market in Brazil spells significant opportunities for business development. In particular the cosmetics and personal care has been posting some of the biggest growth in the global market in recent years.
The opening of the Brazil subsidiary will not only help the company to platform its surfactant portfolio to the local cosmetics players, but should also help it to provide an enhanced service to its customers and supply partners.
"This is exactly what we need to fulfill the needs of our market. From our side, Vitrine brings deep customer relationships to this partnership and the technical skills required to support our market and its distinct requirements", said Dr Ricardo Pedro, Vitrine Química's R&D Director.
