Cosmetics giant The Estée Lauder Companies has appointed Pamela Gill Alabaster, who is making the move from L’Oréal, to head up the company’s strategy on global corporate responsibility.
Alabaster will now be responsible for implementing the company’s continued development of this strategy, which has proved to be an increasingly important aspect of the company’s long-term business objectives.
In her new role, Alabaster will report to Gregory Polcer, executive vice president of global supply chain and Peter Jueptner, senior vice president for strategy and new business development, who in turn both report directly to CEO William Lauder.
Increasing the sustainability stakes
“The establishment of a formal Corporate Responsibility function will enable us to better integrate and drive more sustainable practices throughout the organization around the world,” said Polcer.
Alabaster has held several high level positions at L’Oréal USA, where the focus of her work was management and marketing.
Most recently she held the position of senior vice president of corporate communications for sustainability, which gave her the direct experience needed to take on the role at Estée Lauder.
Other key functions at L’Oréal USA including corporate media, public affairs and sustainable development and led the strategic brand marketing of the L’Oréal Paris and Lancôme brands in the US.
More women in executive positions at Estée Lauder
The newly appointed head of sustainability follows on from a number of other female executive appointments at Estee Lauder, which have included the appointment of two new female presidents as part of a complete restructuring of the group presidents at the end of last year, doubling the number of appointees to four.
The restructuring saw Thia Breen named as group president North America, having led the Company’s home market, she now continues to develop the Company’s strong retailer partnerships within the region.
Also Lynne Greene was named to the new position of group president, continuing to oversee the Clinique, Origins and Ojon global brands, with the addition of the Aveda and Darphin brands.
